It’s great to see innovation from companies trying to meet the demand for a soft structured carrier that can be used for a wide range of sizes and ages. The Flexia is truly unique in the way it accomplishes this: with interchangeable panels in three different sizes! I tried this out with my 2.5 year old in the largest panel (for 10 months to 4 years), and a small demo doll in the smallest panel (from 0 to 3 months), and can say it can truly be a “one and done” carrier for your babywearing career. My first thought was that I hope they encased the zippers well so they don’t shift and aren’t digging into me or baby, and the company definitely thought of that; you would never guess there are zippers involved while wearing the carrier. The zippers slide easily but stay in place, and it only took a minute to change out the panels.
Here is a small demo doll in the 0-3 months panel next to my 2.5 year old in the largest panel.
Here are the three panels disconnected from the carrier. The 0-3 months is super narrow, the 3-10 months about the size of many standard SSCs, and the 10 months – 4 years is nearing the size of some toddler carriers (toddler SSCs vary a lot in size at this point depending on the brand). [Please note, I took no measurements and am basing the above on general feel. Scientific, I know. The point is that the span is large.]
Plus this carrier is quite comfortable overall. The chest clip adjusts easily and there is a sleep hood hidden in a pocket on the upper part of the carrier, so you can use it with any panel size. Since the shoulder straps detach from the body panel, you can wear them crossed in the back for a front carry if you prefer.
Want to see it in action? Here we are switching from my toddler to the smallest panel – it only took a minute!
There are great visuals, videos, and more details on Babylonia’s Felxia page. We have one of each color in the library, so be sure to look for them at a meeting and let us know if you have any questions!
